This is a great program, especially since Aseprite, another great 2D sprite editor, is no longer FOSS. It’s main use is to create pixel art and animation, but it can also be used in conjunction with Godot. If you want to see the development journey with version 3, the creator has made a blog on what he's currently working on for version 3 and how close he is to completion. So, if you feel this program isn't quite what you are looking for yet, check back by the end of 202 1 or early 2022 and see if the improvements change your mind. At the moment, the creator of this software is working on version 3 that should be ready soon and will add many more features. You can see word counts and set target goals in which you are notified when they are reached. You can organize and manage your characters, scenes, chapters, etc with ease using built-in tools. It does this by having a minimal interface as well as features like Distraction Free Mode, Problem Finder, Warm Up, and others. This showcase describes some of them.ĭescription: Quoll Writer is a novel writing software that "helps you focus on your words". The most current series, 2.93, will have Long Term Support (LTS) which last until June 2023! Version 3.0 came out recently bringing vast improvements on current features as well as some new ones. They have also made the program a bit less bloated and more stream-lined then it was before. Other great features include real-time rendering, enhancing models by drawing on them, and many many more. You can also use lighting effects to shade and highlight the 2D models for you. Not only can you animate in 2D using Blender, you can also use 3D elements like the 3D camera for example, to enhance your animation. On July 30, 2019, Blender released 2.80 that introduced many cool features which include a massive revamp to it's 2D animation using Grease Pencil. You can go less than that (4GB minimum), but the program won't operate as effectively. Just keep in mind that this program does need a lot of RAM to function at recommended levels (16GB). This program has so many features some users may think it's a bit bloated for what they want to do, but not many (if any) other free software usually have all of these features. The program has been maintain almost solely by the open-source community, besides 2 full-time and 2 part-time employees. This program has been out for over 20 years and has thought to be a free alternative to Maya or 3DS Max. GIMP 3.2 will be the first version that has Filter/Adjustment Layers, Layer Effects, and other Non-Destructive options. GIMP version 3 seems to be in the works and may be available within the next couple of years. In fact, I still use it sometimes when I create my art. However, compared to Photoshop, GIMP is missing many functions even Photoshop CS2 has such as Actions, full CMYK, and Smart Objects. GIMP is also known of being the free alternative of Photoshop since it is able to save, edit, and open certain Photoshop extensions (PSD and PNG for example), as well as have similar functions and features. Thanks to this community there are many, many, may plugins, brushes, tutorials and other resources. In fact, version 1.0 was created all the way back in 1998! Because of this, GIMP has one of the largest communities out there when it comes to FOSS. Description: GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is one of the oldest FOSS digital art programs out there.
